Why Mission Blue?
Founded by world-renowned oceanographer Dr. Sylvia Earle, Mission Blue™ is a global alliance focused on exploring and protecting the ocean through the creation of Hope Spots® — marine protected areas that hold extraordinary biodiversity and cultural significance.
Their work spans the globe, but two Hope Spots hold special meaning to us: Jæren Coast and the Svalbard Archipelago, both part of Norway’s ocean territory. These waters are woven into Rosita’s ancestral roots. And they’re home to some of the planet’s most pristine and fragile marine ecosystems.
What Mission Blue does
Ocean conservation is a collective effort. Mission Blue unites science, media, and policy to protect what matters most. Through ocean expeditions, education campaigns, and powerful storytelling, the group brings attention to critical ocean areas in need of protection. Their Hope Spots are symbols of possibility: places where healing can begin.
Currently, Mission Blue works alongside more than 200 conservation organizations, helping amplify awareness and drive policy to restore the ocean, which they call the “blue heart” of our planet.
